Asbestos Floor Tile and Sheet Vinyl Removal in Irving

Typical cost in Irving

  • One bathroom or laundry floor, up to about 100 sq ft$900 – $2,500+
  • Kitchen floor, about 200–300 sq ft$1,500 – $4,000+
  • Several rooms of flooring, about 1,000 sq ft$4,000 – $10,000+

Irving homes and apartment units with old floors get each layer sampled first, covering vinyl tile, sheet flooring with its backing, and adhesive, all of which EPA lists as possible asbestos sources. We then remove whatever the lab flags before any floor is lifted.

Irving has about 34,000 homes from the 1950s through the 1970s, and a floor from those years may have newer layers over the original. We work in Irving, Farmers Branch and Euless.

Flooring jobs

Postwar tile and its adhesive

The small square tiles and the black glue beneath them are two materials, so each gets its own sample. That glue bonds the tile to the slab or subfloor, so it is part of the removal.

Sheet vinyl and felt backing

Once the top layer is cut back, the backing beneath is a possible source too. It gets sampled before the sheet is pulled up, not after.

Carpet over old floors

Lifting carpet and pad is no permit item in Irving, but it can uncover tile and glue nobody has seen for decades. If you are curious about what lies below, we can sample a small corner first.

Apartment kitchens and baths

A unit turn can come down to one kitchen and one bathroom. We clear those floors while the unit is empty, so the next trade works on a known surface.

Keeping the dust out

EPA warns against sanding a floor that may contain asbestos and against putting a power stripper to it. We stay within that advice, wetting the material as it comes up and bagging it at once.

A sound floor does not have to come out. DSHS says a homeowner generally need not act on asbestos that stays undisturbed, so new flooring over a tested floor is a choice, not a mistake.

Frequently asked questions

Can I install new flooring over the old tile?

Leaving sound material alone is an option, and a test tells you what sits under the new floor. Flooring makers set their own surface requirements, so ask your installer before you decide.

Is it safe to peel up the top layer and leave the rest?

Not before testing. EPA warns against scraping, sanding or sweeping suspect material, and the layer underneath may be the one that holds asbestos.

What does floor removal cost?

Square footage, glue and layers drive the quote, and so do how much cleanup the rooms need and what the lab charges.

Remodels that open walls need a second set of samples, and Asbestos testing and surveys explains how those are taken. More pages are linked from the Irving Asbestos Removal homepage.
