Euless homes by decade
The 1980s gave Euless about 7,300 homes, more than any other decade, while the 1960s and 1970s added about 3,600 and 3,200.
Under a third of Euless homes predate 1980, and a 1980s build year does not clear a house either way, since EPA says a lab test is the only way to be sure.
Rentals and apartments
About 6 in 10 Euless homes have renters in them. Under the state rules one house, or one building of four units or fewer, is excluded, but crews you hire remain covered by OSHA.
Complexes past four units need a survey before renovation, and DSHS-licensed people handle sampling and removal in a public building.
Testing and paperwork
Ask the city office that issues permits what it needs on asbestos before you apply, since a house and a commercial building can get different answers.
DSHS needs notice at least 10 working days before public-building abatement and before any commercial demolition, whether or not asbestos is present. One house demolished by itself needs no notice.
Frequently asked questions
My Euless house is from 1985. Is testing worth it?
Build year does not settle it either way, and EPA says only a lab test can. Sample what your project will disturb.
Does Euless require an asbestos survey for a permit?
Check with the office that issues Euless permits. The state's rule covers public and commercial buildings only. Before granting a renovation or demolition permit, a city has to be shown a survey or a certification from an architect or engineer.
Are Euless apartments covered by the state rules?
A building with five or more units is. The survey precedes renovation, and DSHS-licensed people do the sampling and removal when it is a public building.
